ABOUT KYAGAR

A Legacy of Stewardship and Sustainability
Kyagar is a legacy that spans generations of hospitality along the Silk Route. Rooted in family traditions and Ladakhi culture, we carry forward the warmth, wisdom, and genuine care passed down through generations. As stewards of the land, we honor our past while thoughtfully shaping a sustainable future.

Luxury Redefined
Through Culture and Connection
If true luxury is defined by rare moments of connection, then at Kyagar, it’s about embracing the timeless beauty of Ladakh – its pristine landscapes, ancient traditions, and the warmth of its people. Here, luxury isn’t found in possessions, but in the space and peace that invite you to reconnect with yourself and the world around you.
More than just a destination, Kyagar offers an immersive experience. Guests are invited to step into Ladakh’s vibrant past and present, engage with its rich heritage, and forge meaningful connections with the local community. Time spent here is an opportunity to slow down, learn, and grow, creating memories that linger long after the journey ends.
At Kyagar, stories of the past are honoured, the present is celebrated, and the future is shaped with care. It’s a retreat for those who seek to slow down, learn, and grow, leaving with full hearts and inspired minds.

Sustainability & Stewardship
At Kyagar, sustainability is more than a practice—it’s a promise. Guided by respect for Ladakh’s delicate ecosystem and rich culture, every detail is designed with care. From using responsibly sourced materials to managing waste thoughtfully, we focus on practices that give back more than they take.

Our commitment to eco-friendliness begins with our design and operations, where we’ve used natural materials for construction and optimised solar electricity usage. Notably, only one-third of our 25 acres has been developed, leaving the remaining land as a pristine habitat for the pikas, hares, and birds that call this place home.

Nourished by natural glacial water and fertilized with organic compost from neighbouring cows , our gardens thrive without harming the environment. We ensure the freshest, organic produce reach our kitchens, while supporting local ecosystems.

Thought has been given to all guest amenities, with an effort to minimize use of plastic. Our garbage is carefully segregated, and efforts made to dispose off all waste products responsibly. We’ve also implemented a closed-loop system, where kitchen waste is recycled back to the cows, and composted to enrich the soil.

experience true luxury while supporting a sustainable and responsible way of life.
Our choices reflect a commitment to protecting the land, uplifting local communities, and creating a future where luxury and responsibility go hand in hand. Beyond our property, we actively support conservation efforts, preserve Ladakh’s beauty, and promote eco-friendly tourism.

Community Driven
Tourism should be a force for good. Through deep collaboration with the local community, we create opportunities, preserve traditions, and ensure our success benefits both people and the environment. Rooted in regenerative tourism, we support local livelihoods while safeguarding Ladakh’s fragile landscapes and heritage. We help traditions evolve meaningfully, enriching both locals and visitors.
Education remains a cornerstone of our efforts. By supporting initiatives like the Lamdon School in Sumur Village, we contribute to building a brighter future for the youth of Nubra Valley.
Every stay supports local empowerment, cultural preservation, and sustainable practices. Experience the authentic charm of Ladakh through locally sourced cuisine, immersive cultural interactions, and heartfelt community engagement.

Our outreach program focuses on supporting the Lamdon School in Sumoor Village, the heartbeat of education for students from the Siachen belt villages of Nubra. We have helped with fundraising for various initiatives, and have had the privilege of connecting deserving students with sponsors for their education.

Innately, we recognize the intricate link between economic vitality and community well-being, and are committed to fostering economic growth and pride in our local community. We adopt a “Local First” approach, prioritizing local applicants for employment, sourcing goods from nearby suppliers, and collaborating with local artisans and craftsmen.

We celebrate and showcase Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage through immersive experiences, with proceeds directly benefiting villagers. This not only preserves and promotes the region’s customs and traditions but also instills a sense of pride among community members.

Family Owned
Created by a husband-wife duo Rinchen Kalon and Stanzin Gurmet, the idea of Kyagar is rooted in generations of stewardship and inspired by their deep connection to the region. Rinchen’s family were some of the earliest settlers in the region, with a rich history of hosting traders on the silk route, who travelled with bactrian camels laden with pashmina, spices, precious stones and tea. Gurmet’s roots go back to western Ladakh, where his family were one of the foremost Ladakhi traders traversing these regions.
The time spent living away from Ladakh only deepened their appreciation for their homeland, its pristine landscapes, its people, and the ancient traditions that define it. Together, they have brought their diverse experiences and shared passion to create Kyagar, a retreat for modern travellers who seek more than just a destination.

A Vision for the Future
This is our home, we envision it as a space where curious minds gather and where slow mindful travel is encouraged, a space for discerning travellers who learn as much from the community as the community does from them. It is a home for the weary, a learning experience for the curious, and a service to the community.
