The Fortified Complex of Charasa
An off beat day visit from Kyagar is the village of Charasa. A quaint village with a monastery, a 500 year old palace, and the ruins of a fortress dating even further back, Charasa is an adventurer’s delight!
Murgi Petrogylphs
Searching for rocks at this site entails a chaotic ascent over unstable gravel and rocks, The two hillocks comprising this mound, separated by a dry torrent, are scattered with petroglyphs, exhibiting a seemingly random arrangement.
The rocks and boulders feature stags and massive ibexes dashing across their widths, followed closely by tiny hunters intent on their pursuit.
The Murgi Tokpo site was discovered by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the 1990s and was studied in detail by M. Vernier, L. Bruneau and Q. Devers between 2007 and 2013. They documented 877 boulders from this site alone.
Ensa Monastery
Reaching Ensa feels like stepping back in time. The ancient chortens that dot the slopes and plateaus around the monastery tell stories of centuries past.
Yarab Tso
Nestled between Tirisa and Panamik, Yarab Tso (also known as Lohan Tso) is a Lake and a site rich in history and ancient ruins.
The lake is fed by an underground spring, creating a serene and clear body of water that reflects the surrounding hills and sky. Locally, it is believed that you can see the reflection of the Potala in the still waters of the lake
